Welcome to the new blog for Eleven Weddings Photography!
For those of you that don’t know, Eleven Weddings Photography is run by Chip Litherland (actually, why do we all talk in the third person, when you know darn well it’s just me sitting in my studio writing this? Sorry, I digress). I’m a photographer based in Sarasota, Fla., and spend most of my time chasing light and color. It’s an addiction really. In fact, I’m still waiting for the day I find a bride wearing red. It’s my Holy Grail. Wear a red dress to your wedding, call me, and I will hook you up.
I’m an award-winning photographer with over ten years of experience working in photojournalism and am a regular contributor to The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and ESPN the Magazine. Most of my editorial and so-called “normal” work can be found over at my site and the corresponding blog. I would normally run through a laundry list of awards and recognitions right here, but I’m going to bypass all of that and just get to the history of how I got to this point at midnight on a Monday watching 934 photos from my last wedding upload to a clients’ website.
Over the last several years, what once was a side business I did mostly for friends of sisters and cousins whose friend has a buddy who needs a photographer has quickly become a successful wedding photography business. I shoot for some amazing brides and grooms, who really can appreciate how I see and what I do. It has opened so many doors, allowed me to travel the world, and – quite frankly – is just a lot of fun. Being a photojournalist first and foremost has given me a genuine desire to meet people (yes, even your wacky aunt). I enjoy the day alongside you. I will spare you my dancing. I do, however, crack a smile every time that I find myself standing with the bride as she sits alone waiting to make her grand entrance. It gives me such a tremendous feeling to know that this young woman has trusted me with this moment, and that I’m the guy who she spends most of her wedding day with. I’ve seen some amazing moments touching on every emotion out there.
What I do is cover your day as is. Not with a “Do that again,” “Hey, can you move over here a little,” or “Can you cut the cake slower?” I approach weddings the same way I do for an editorial gig, with a sense of responsibility, wide wandering eyes, and the passion to make images that go beyond what the cookie-cutter wedding photography out there clogging up search engines and bridal magazine pages. I’m happy to talk, so please contact me via my endless stream of social networking and digital gadgetry.
I always get asked, so I’m just going to lay it out here now. Why “Eleven Weddings?” As sappy as it is, my wife and I started our relationship in Las Vegas sitting next to each other betting on 11 on the roulette table at Bally’s. I dropped a big stack of $5 chips on 11 and hit. In more ways than one. I took that money and paid for a night out on the town – limos, drinks, and all the excesses that come with Vegas – trying to win Elaine over. It paid off in finding my beautiful bride, a Vegas wedding, and two amazing daughters – Daisia and Addie Ann. If you need a flower girl, I can rent them (I think legally I’m supposed to say I’m kidding).
We had 50 photographers at our wedding, yet still hired one to take photos. It is important. Not a job for your buddy, Steve, who says he has a really nice camera and says he’ll do it for free. Trust me on that one. I’ve seen the result of that decision and it was not good. When you get a second swing by the Eleven Weddings Photography site and poke around. Let me know how I can help. Leave Steve out of it.
